   Ceren Selmanpakoğlu    Ankara,1977
Ceren Selmanpakoğlu, born in Ankara in 1977, graduated from Hacettepe University, Department of Ceramics in 1999. She opened her first solo exhibition “Body within ‘which’” in 2002 at the Contemporary Arts Center and her second solo exhibition “Souvenir” at Bilkent Congress Hall in 2004, in Ankara. Her Master’s thesis “The Formation of Alevi Syncretism”, which she wrote at Bilkent University in 2006, became the basis of her third solo exhibition “Imaging Fire” opened in 2008. In this exhibition, she depicted the relation between ‘God’ concept and human through Alevi doctrine. She uses the molds of her body to shape her ceramic sculptures. Her works have been exhibited in various group exhibitions since 1996, including, “Where is my Privacy?” at Casa Dell Arte, “Past is Over, Now Pay the Bill” at Daire Sanat and 2009 TUYAP Art Fair curated by Denizhan Özer in Istanbul. Selmanpakoğlu’s also photography works are exhibited and published. Artist’s special photography series has been recently published in Hacıbektaş Journal’s special issue of “800th Year of Birth of Hacı Bektaş Veli.” She is now working on her PhD thesis: “The Propositions on the Role of Art as a Social Agent”, at Hacettepe University.
